2023 - CADR - Spring Fling
Spring fling was such a fun race! nova chemical trail is one of my favorite places to bikejore, the course has a mix of tight turns, long sweeping turns and for added fun .. bridges!
the weather was perfect, cool temperatures and overcast skies it was the ideal conditions for a race.
the night before the race is prep time, we, installed some snow fencing / pylons & signs. so, all I had to do on race day, was a quick trail check and get ready to race.
Luka and i were 1st out and Thomas and Niko were 2nd.
we started out really well hit the first corners superfast, and we started up the hill, I slowed down & it was enough for Luka to get bored. he took a minute to stop and sniff some flowers, but that didn’t last long… because all we could hear was Nikos bell ringing. before I knew it Thomas and Niko flew up that hill with out even skipping a beat, that was enough encouragement to get Luka re focused and then he was on!
we chased Thomas and Niko the rest of the race, it was something to be able to see both boys so focused and running so fast. Luka and I came in 2nd place, behind Thomas and Niko who had an amazing run finishing in 1st place with a time of 8.38 mins (4.5km)!
humans & dogs were happy! but it wasn’t over yet….
The boys had about an hour or so to rest, as both were running in the Canicross division later that morning.
Sandy was out first, he is known for taking first in all the cani races, so he gets to lead the pack…. Him & Willy are a strong team to catch. Jackie & Niko were 2nd and in 3rd was Thomas and Luka, among 9 other racers! This was the biggest canicross event to date.
We really need drones following the canicross race, the teams are so neck in neck that sometimes it’s a 1 second difference between a 1st and 2nd place.
Jackie and Niko had an amazing run, finishing the 4.5 km course in 16:39 seconds! That was fast enough to take home 2nd place. Thomas said his first 2km were fast, he never ran that fast before and wasn’t sure if he could do it for entire 4.5kms. but around the 3km mark Luka slacked off a little giving them both a small break, they picked it back up in the end and had a great finish, finishing the course in 18:24 giving them 3rd place overall!
The canicross races are something to see, the dogs and humans really work as a team, when they cross the finish line with their tongues hanging and their human are smiling but dying a little bit, but you an tell they had a good time and they are glad its over lol.
Jackie and I wanted to thank all the sponsors for your donations, the prizes this year where absolutely amazing !
